Big Sur and Monterey, California 2009

Summer 2009 is nearly over, but at the last moment we decided to go on a road trip up and down the California coastline using Pacific Coast Highway. It was outstanding timing as I just received my new Nikon D300s camera. This road trip, I will bring both my old trusty D200 and the new D300s. On the D200, I have the Nikon 70-200 f2.8 VR mounted on. On the D300s, I have the Nikon 17-55mm f2.8 ED lens.

We started our trip around 9AM from Southern California heading up the 101 freeway until San Luis Obispo where we stop for lunch. Using my trusty Blackberry Storm and Poynt application, it picked a nice little creole place called Bon Temps Creole ( After lunch we then connect to Pacific Coast Highway 1 (PCH 1) to continue to our final destination for Saturday night is Santa Cruz. Along the way, finding a place to take picture wasn't an issue. Beautiful landscape is a dime a dozen. The hard part is deciding when to stop and not to stop so we could make it to Santa Cruz not too late.

A few key areas I highly recommend for anyone to plans this trip:
(Note: They are on order of places from LA to Santa Cruz)
  • Hearst Castle ->
  • Elephant Seal Lookout ->
  • Ragged Point Vista ->
  • McWay Falls (inside Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park) ->
  • Nepenthe Restaurant (in the heart of Big Sur) ->
  • Bixey Bridge ->
  • Carmel By The Sea ->
  • Pebble Beach / 17 Mile Drive ->
  • Monterey Aquarium ->
